CASSAUNA

Vertical is Caterina Barbieri's first album released on tape by Important Records’ sub-label Cassauna. Described by Barbieri as a “meditation on primary waveforms and the polyrhythm of harmonics in synthetic sounds”, Vertical is a set of compositions for Buchla Synthesizer 200 and vocals recorded in Stockholm during her studies at the Royal College of Music and the Elektronmusikstudion. Stretching the boundaries between drone, minimalism and techno, Barbieri investigates the polyphonic and polyrhythmic potential of voltage-controlled sequencers to draw severe geometries in time and space.
